With the excitement of Dinosaur Week I didn't even have time to set a home-learning challenge for everyone!
The top priority for home learning after a busy term's work is to ...
... have a good rest! Enjoy your Easter holiday, spending time with family and friends and take a well earned break!
If you are yearning for school then these three activities should keep you going:
1. Learn to tell the time. Start with o'clock times, get to know the difference between the hands. Know what the hour hand does. Tell the time with just the hour hand. Then look at the minute hand, count in 5s around the clock. Start at the 12 and count the minutes past the hour with the minute hand. Write down digital times. Then when you are confident look at quarter past, half past and quarter to. We will be learning about time in the first few weeks back after the holidays so a bit of pre-learning will make you super confident!
Challenge: Work out time intervals - calculate times from one given time to another, look at timetables, TV programs and cooking times.
2. The Red Reading Challenge continues, curl up at bedtime and share a good book.
3. Spelling is a challenge! In the middle of your Reading Journals there is a list of common exception words, find out which words you still need to learn to spell and which words you're confident with!
Happy Easter everyone!

Year 2 - Dinotastic Dinosaur Week - 30th March 2018
What a wonderful way to end this term! It all started with Dippy leaving us a present outside school. The children wrote poems and Witness Statements in response to Dippy's visit and the police were on hand to take down evidence regarding the roaming dinosaur. On Tuesday we had a visit from Lucy Volpin, Lucy is an author and illustrator. She has written two books so far and year 2 were lucky enough to have a workshop with her which we thoroughly enjoyed, in fact we didn't want to stop drawing! On Wednesday it was Dino-Dress Down day, a fun day to show our inner dino. We had paleontologists, dinosaurs, explorers and even a Saber-Tooth tiger! We continued to find out more about dinosaurs, time periods, reading dino stories and poems and sketching and colouring. Of course Thursday was Dippy day and the whole school went to see the famous Dinosaur - what a fabulous day! We dug for fossils, looked closely at Dippy and toured the Jurassic Gallery to find out about Megalosaurs and Plesiosaurs. Which do you think was the most fearsome? We even sang to Dippy before we left. A fabulously inspiring week, well done everyone for participating with such enthusiasm! For home-learning it would be lovely to see some reports / recounts about the day! Here are some pictures:

Year 2 - Dippy Day - 27th March 2018
As you know this week we are going to see Dippy! As the weather doesn't sound too good we have decided to travel to the museum and back by coach. The trip will also overlap with lunchtime. If your child usually has a hot dinner a packed lunch will be available for your child instead. If you would prefer your child to have a packed lunch from home, this is perfectly acceptable. As we may be back a little late for lunch could you please ensure that your child has plenty of break time snack and a drink? If you have not returned your permission slip and voluntary contribution yet, please come and see Mrs Webb as she has some spare copies for you to fill in.

Challenge: What other dinosaur words can you think of?
Year 2 - Home learning - 23rd March 2018
As it is Dippy week next week I have set
you a Dino themed home learning activity.
You can choose to do one of the following:
1.
Find out as many facts and figures as you can about different dinosaurs
– length, height, weight, footprint size, etc..
2.
Make a dinosaur themed alphabet where each letter of the alphabet has a
dinosaur or dinosaur themed word.
3.
Write a poem about your favourite dinosaur.
4.
Sketch or Draw your favourite dinosaur.
We are
looking forward to seeing your dino creations by next Thursday.
Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 19th March 2018
This week we have been focusing on poetry. The children have been developing expanded noun phrases to describe the Great Fire of London. For example: leaping flames, billowing black smoke. From these phrases we have created shape poems which are going to be displayed on our "Pudding Lane" display. The children worked hard to use interesting language choices, painting a picture with their words. Why not try writing a poem for this week's home learning. You could write some noun phrases for dinosaurs!
Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week beginning 19th March 2018
This week we have been consolidating our understanding of Fractions and finding fractions in everyday life. We have used 1/2 in the context of measuring, using 1/2 cm. We have also investigated different ways of showing 1/2 and explored how we can be creative with this making some wonderful patterns. Lastly we have solved problems that required us to put fractions on a number line. We have noticed that 1/2 and 2/4 are the same.
Year 2 - Pudding Lane - Perfect! - 23rd March 2018
What an amazing effort everyone has put in with their home learning over the last few weeks! Pudding Lane is looking amazing and a new display is going up to show it off to its best. Please come along and have a look at the amazing creations. Special and very well deserved certificates will be coming home next week. Thank you very much for supporting your children with their learning, they have been really proud to show what they have created.
Year 2 - Sports Relief - 23rd March 2018
We had a very exciting and fun packed day at school today. The children took part in a HIT training session; a run of a mile or more and cheered the staff on at the staff space hopper and sack race! Finally we all came together in the hall to see how far we had managed to walk or run by totaling all of our miles. Mr Gibson worked out that if we added all of our miles together we could have got as far a Liverpool! A super effort by all, well done!

Year 2 - Off to the Farm - 21st March 2018 for 22nd March 2018
Spring is in the air (just)! So, we are off to the farm. Please send your child to school tomorrow 22nd March, wearing suitable outdoor clothes - Wellies/ walking boots, Coat, (gloves, hat), play trousers and school uniform top. Could you also ensure that your child has their school shoes to wear on their return to school? We will be back in time for a normal lunch. We will be looking for signs of Spring along the way and will hopefully learn lots more from Hazel about this time of year on the Farm as well as get to see the new lambs. Many thanks to those of you that have offered to walk with us, we will see you tomorrow!

Year 2 - Home learning - 16th March 2018
Year 2 - Home learning – 16th
March 2018
The Red Reading Challenge: This week I set
the children in year 2 The Red Reading Challenge. This challenge involves children choosing a
book from the red section of the library and taking their time to read it from
start to finish! This reading can be
done at home and in school and reading can be done by the children or the grown
ups. The idea behind this is to get
children reading and enjoying longer texts and to persevere enough to get into
longer books. This week is a chance to
get started on the challenge. It will
take more than a week, but it would be great to make a good start to harness
the children’s enthusiasm for reading longer books. As you read with your child try to talk about
what you have read, ask questions and get them to ask questions.
Happy Reading.
It
is also week 2 of the Pudding Lane Big Build.
We have already had two brilliant houses made from lego to start our
lane off, I look forward to seeing more models coming in this week.
