Y2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 10th October

This week we have continued to look at addition, applying our knowledge of place value to help us to add quickly and efficiently.  We have investigated how you can add numbers in any order and that if you know one fact such as 4+3=7 you also know facts such as 40+30=70 and 400+300=700.  One of the key skills for addition is knowing which strategy is going to be the best to use.  If you are adding a small number you could count on or use your number bonds, whereas if you are adding two two-digit numbers you may want to use 10s and 1s or a vertical method.  Children tend to favour one method even if it isn't the most efficient, as your child becomes more confident the greater the range of strategies they will use.
Challenge:  Can you fill in the missing numbers on the hundred square?  Write all digits the correct way around and bring it in for a superhero point.
