Yet another positive week in year 2!

We have enjoyed another busy and fun-filled week in year 2. How is it the end of week 4 already? This half term is whizzing by! We have undertaken lots of exciting learning across the curriculum and it is lovely watching the children's minds expand day by day!

In maths, we have been tackling the rather tricky concept of estimating numbers. This can be a challenging idea for children to get their heads around, but my class never fail to amaze me with their determination! We have been looking at numbers such as 47 and identifying the multiples of 10 that come before and after it. We then found the midpoint between those two multiples of 10 and used this to help us decide whether our number was smaller or bigger than the midpoint. The children have shown fantastic resilience when tackling this tricky concept.

In English, we have brought together all of the amazing learning we have done so far around The Bear Under the Stairs and used it to create our very own letters of advice to William. The children’s ideas have absolutely blown me away! It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow throughout our lessons and then see this reflected in their writing. They have worked so hard to expand their vocabulary, using words such as horrified and petrified to engage the reader rather than simply using the word ‘scared’. I am incredibly proud of them all! Their fantastic writing will be up on our Writing Hall of Fame at the start of next week,

In RE, we have been learning about how people of the Jewish faith celebrate the New Year. We have discovered what Rosh Hashanah is and created our own New Year cards featuring the greeting Shanah Tovah, meaning “Good Year”. The children have really enjoyed learning about this celebration and creating their own cards.

And finally… we have officially started our Christmas card making! 🎄 It is never too early for Christmas in Year 2! Our cards will be sent to Cauliflower Cards, where they will be available to purchase. More information about this will be shared with you closer to the time, so keep an eye out for further details.
