Getting lost in a book!

I think it's safe to say that every child in year 2 LOVES reading!!!!!!!!!!

What an enjoyable week - one child said it had gone so quickly!

Oh! And I nearly forgot that on Monday we had our trip to Street Wise where the children demonstrated how clever they were and even practiced making 999 calls! Impressive stuff - a note though - It would be a good idea to reinforce with your children the importance of saying "no" if they are asked to do something they know is dangerous or if a stranger asks them to go off with them!

We based our reading week activities around the book "Trubloff" by John Burningham. It inspired us to explore our hopes and dreams, Trubloff's big day on the stage and, indeed, our big day on the Year 2's Got Talent stage. This entailed lots of drama (which the children were excellent at), collaborative learning projects producing a diorama of a scene from the book and one working with Year1 making story boxes. We also learned some super, top secret ways of helping us to write...........we wrote Trubloff's diary. Next week we will be using this learning to help us write our own "Big Day" diaries.

A huge thank you to all the families that were able to make it in to share a book with the children - the children thoroughly enjoyed it, you made it a very special time for your child and, in some cases, some of the other children too!!!!! There are some lovely photos on display in the entrance foyer - please take a look!

You will also see all the extreme reading photos that were taken - super imaginative!!!!! Well done!!!

There was no end to our reading skills and talents as we also read 2 french stories (Thank you to the Tindalls) - Me, using my rusty french and the children listening out for familiar sounding words and inferring from the pictures - very enjoyable - they have a good ear for languages! Tres Bien!

Next week we will also be learning about time in numeracy so if you would like to practice at home that would be great!

Thanks again and happy reading!
Mrs. Johnson
