A big well done to all of the children who have received a reply to the letters they wrote last half term. This week Indi-Rose received a letter from Buckingham Palace! We were all very excited to see Indi open her letter. Let's hope we receive more replies soon.Friday, 26 January 2018
Year 2 - A letter from the Queen - 26th January 2018

Year 2 - Home Learning - 26th January 2018
Next week we will be having our third Big
Write of the year. Big Write 3 will be
all about writing an adventure story. It
will be based on the magic key adventures.
The key has the power to take the children in a story off on adventure
to Victorian times. Over the weekend I
would like you to play with the puppets below and jot down some ideas for your
story. Think about the beginning, middle
and end of the story before you begin!
There are two story mountains, please write down on one of these the ideas you have for the story.
Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 22nd June 2018
This week we have been looking at graphs and frequency tables as ways of presenting data. The children took part in the Smartie challenge and discovered that orange and pink smarties aren't more common than the other colours and that the number of Smarties in each tube can vary. We counted between 28 and 34! Choose your tube carefully! The children sorted and recorded this data carefully and were treated to a small reward for their efforts. Today the children have really enjoyed conducting their own surveys using tally marks and frequency tables to collect their own data. They then constructed bar charts showing their data more clearly and made comments on what they found out. Great independent Maths learning, well done year 2!
Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week beginning 22nd January 2018
This week the children have been preparing for this week's class assembly and writing a report about Victorian Day using Microsoft Powerpoint. They have learned how to create slides, insert pictures and edit this to make it clear. It has been great to see how quickly the children have taken this on, they have produced some great presentations. We have also been writing a biography of Florence Nightingale, using our knowledge from our Victorian day and notes that we had taken last week the children have been writing in sentences to describe Florence's life.Next week the Magic Key will be taking us off on an adventure. Please see this week's home learning activity preparing for the Big Write next week.

Year 2 - Award Trophies - 19th January 2018
We always enjoy awarding the special trophies at the end of each half term to children who have shown particular ability or progress in different areas of the curriculum. Sadly over the course of last year and this 3 of our year 2 trophies have gone missing. We have ordered 2 of these trophies to be replaced and are awaiting their arrival. To those of you who have missed out on taking your trophy home we will ensure that you have your photo taken when they arrive. As far of the 3rd trophy goes, we think it has gone missing more recently and need your help tracking it down. If you have the year 2 "Our World" trophy at home, please could you return it asap, no questions asked. We hope to have a full set of trophies back in action for this half term's awards. Please remember that these trophies are to be returned at the end of each half term so that the next lucky winner doesn't miss out as some already have..
Many thanks.
