Year 2 - Home learning - 19th January 2018

This week I have given you some matching cards for the times tables.  You could cut these up and practice putting the pictures and answers together.  Play a game of snap or picking pairs out.  Also there is a sheet with multiplication and division fact wheels, to work these out you will need to multiply the number on the inner wheel by 2 to get the outer number.  Or you might need to divide the outer number by 2 to get the inner number.  Please return your home learning or let me know if you've been using the matching cards at home and you will get a superhero point!

Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 8th January 2018

This week we have really mastered multiplication!  The children are getting more confident in learning their times tables and working out related multiplication facts.  By using equipment and drawing pictures we have been able to understand how multiplication means groups of or lots of.  We have also been practicing our times tables.  Your child will be coming home today with their first times table certificates.  The first step to learning tables is being able to count in multiples.  For example to learn the 10s you need to be able to count in 10s first and identify any patterns in these numbers.  Then you can work out facts using your ability to count in multiples, for example, 5x4=, hold up 4 fingers and count on 5 each time.  Then comes the quick recall!  Can your child quickly recall times table facts in any order?  Practice at home by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s then 3s.  Times table songs are fun, there are some on Mathletics (if they work ) or youtube.  Once your child is confident they can move on to quick recall.  At home try to practice these and spot patterns.  Next week we will be looking at division.

Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 8th January 2018

This week we have been writing, writing, writing!  We have found out lots more about the Victorians along the way.  The children have been challenged to make their own scrapbooks containing pictures and writing about the Victorians.  This week we have written reports about Victorian toys and games, Victorian Kitchens, Victorian Christmas Cards, Victorian Stationers, Victorian Peg Dolls, facts about famous Victorians and a Biography about Queen Victoria.  The standard of writing has been amazing, writing everyday is really paying off.  Well done year 2!

Year 2 - CPG support materials - 12th January 2018

Dear Parents

We have the opportunity as a school to do an order of CGP KS1 Skills Practice Materials.  These may be useful if you are looking to support your child as they progress towards their end of Key Stage Assessments in June.  They contain activities to support the learning that we have covered in school in years 1 and 2 as well as give them opportunities to practice test type questions.  There is absolutely no obligation to buy these materials, but they are very reasonably priced if you are looking for something like this to support learning at home.

If you would like to see some sample materials, they are available to view in the classroom.  Please feel free to have a browse and see if these are something you could use at home.

Enclosed with this letter is a list of the resources available.  Please complete and return with payment to the school office by next Wednesday (17th January) and we will put in a bulk order to get the best possible price for you.

Yours sincerely

Miss A Johnson

Year 2 - Homelearning - 12th January 2018

Year 2 – Home Learning – 12th January 2018
Victorian Schools
Next week we will be having our Victorian Day where the children will be transported back in time to experience what it was like to be a Victorian child; journey to the Crimea with Florence Nightingale; bake for the Queen; Play Victorian games and even have afternoon tea with Queen Victoria herself.  So that you are prepared for the day I would like you to find out a bit more about what it was like to go to school in Victorian times.  Choose one of these activities:
1.  Make a set of rules for the Victorian classroom.
2.  Find out what was the same and different to a classroom today.
3.  Try out some Victorian handwriting.
4.  Find some pictures of Victorian classroom artifacts and label them.
5.  Find out what children thought about going to school in Victorian times.
6.  Write a diary entry as if you were a Victorian child, tell me what happened when you went to school.
Find out about Victorian Schools and take the quiz.
(This is not tablet friendly).
Any learning will be praised next week.  If you do one of the web based activities, just let me know at school for a Superhero point.
