Telling the Time in Year Two

Dear Year Two Families,

In Year Two Maths over the next couple of weeks, we are working on

'Telling the Time' and Measurement with Time.

  • Compare and sequence intervals of time.
  • Read the time on a clock to 5 minute intervals
  • Know the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day.

In class we have made some 'Telling Time Clocks' with special flap-over parts to help with time telling. These are coming home to support you with some 'Time telling' activities that we will also be sending home later in the week.

Not essential, but if you had thought of getting a watch for your Y2 child, now would be a great time to do so.

 Hello, Year 2 families,

Some children and parents have asked for some advice regarding costumes for The Wind in the Willows performance.

If your child has a named role such as Mole, Ratty, Toad, Judge or Policeman or Rabbit, please could you provide a costume that helps tell the audience what their part is?

This does not have to be elaborate, and there is no expectation that you will buy an outfit. For example, Toad may have a smart cardigan or jacket over a t-shirt.

If your child is playing the part of a narrator, they could dress like a woodland creature; they have a tail or rabbit ears.  I would recommend things like black or brown leggings and a top of a similar colour. We will have a selection of headbands or masks for pupils to choose from to finish off their costume.

Please be mindful that the children will need to walk to The Borough Gardens in their costume and wear it for the duration of our trip. Hence, the costume needs to be practical and comfortable.

A reminder that pupils need to bring their script into school every day. It is much easier than sharing scripts.

We would like as many children as possible to have learned their lines, so we are not dependant on scripts. Frequent and often tends to be the best approach with learning lines; could you practice them on the way to school or just before bed?

Lots of children have begun to know their lines, which is fantastic, so thank you for the work which has already been done!

The children have made brilliant efforts this week when practising. I am extremely proud of all of them and can’t wait to show you our performance next week.

Please do not worry about costumes there is really is no pressure to buy anything new; I have included a few ideas below.

If you do have any questions, please do ask.

Ms Evans

Exciting News...

We will be having our Arts and Wellbeing Week from Monday 12th to Friday 16th July this year.

We have got lots of exciting, creative and mindful activities planned for the children and are collecting the following resources:

Interesting (clean) plastic waste such as:

 colourful bottles

bottle tops

carrier bags

cord

string

nets

sheet

plastic

lids

jars

beads, etc...

This will be built into a rather exciting art instillation in the hall.

Wool - Any type

If you have any of the above spare, please bring to the office where we will place a collection box.

We look forward to bringing you more news about this and more #InspiredToLearn weeks soon!

Hello Year 2 families,

I have something very exciting to share with you all. This term, our focus is on Kenneth Graham's wonderful story, The Wind and the Willows. Pupils have enjoyed learning all about the adventures of Mole, Ratty, Toad and Badger this week and have produced fantastic The Wind and the Willows themed work in Literacy, Drama and Art this week. I have been so impressed!

The 25th of June will be Year 2's turn for a class assembly. We will perform an extract from The Wind and the Willows; you will have noticed that the children brought a copy of their script home with them today. Please do encourage them to learn their lines as part of their homework tasks over the next few weeks. They will also receive lots of support at school whilst we focus on creating our performance so please ensure that they have their scripts in school every day.

We have been exploring different drama techniques for a number of weeks; some pupils have indicated that they would prefer to have a smaller speaking role which has been reflected in the script. However, all children will participate in various roles during the performance. We can't wait to exhibit their budding acting skills with you all.

To make our performance even more unique, we would like to invite you to watch us at The Borough Gardens (weather permitting, details to follow). We hope that performing in such a wonderful space will enhance pupils' experience and be the perfect setting for this wildlife-filled adventure. For those of you who are unable to get along to the Borough Gardens, rest assured that we will be recording the performance. This will be available to watch later in the day. For those who can come along, you might like to join us for a picnic there too.

After the performance, the class will visit The Shire Hall Museum, where staff may have a few The Wind and Willows secrets up their sleeves for the children to enjoy.

I have included some photos taken in our recent drama lesson where pupils improvised a short scene of Mole and Ratty on the river.

I do hope you can come and watch our performance in a few weeks time.

Have a lovely weekend

Ms Evans and the Year 2 team.

Bike Mix Up - 10th June 2021

 Can you help?

We have had a bit of a bike mix up!  Someone has mistakenly taken the wrong bike home today from the bike shed.  It is a black and bright yellow/green Apollo bike.  If you have a bike of the same colour and model, could you please check as the missing bike has a child's name on it.  The twin bike is safe and sound at school!  We hope to swap them back tomorrow!

Many Thanks

Year Two STEM Works with the National Grid

Year Two had an exciting and interesting morning working with Claire Lyes from the Dorset Visual Impact Project. This was a special STEM Works project representing the National Grid.
As well as looking at how Earth's energy moves through Food Chains, the children made these fabulous 'lever pictures' showing the rising Sun.
