Year 2 - Home learning - Week ending 29th June 2018

This week you have two home learning activities.  Firstly, log on to Mathletics and see how many points you can earn.  It is the Mathletics summer challenge this week and we are hoping for a high total number of points.  How many can you earn?  Also, please have a go at reading your assembly lines ready for next week.

Year 2 - Class Assembly - 29th June 2018

Next Friday 6th July will be our class assembly.  The children have brought home a script for the assembly and we will be practicing next week.  Please help your children practice reading their lines.  I have told the children to keep the script secret from you, so don't be surprised if they want to practice in private!  Please come along to see what we have been learning about in the last few weeks on Friday at 9:20am in the school hall.

Year 2 - Summer Fair Stall - 29th June 2018

Tomorrow will be our Grand Summer Fair.  If you are going, please can you spare a few minutes to help out on Indi-Rose's stall?  We are trying to complete the biggest loom band ever and you can contribute!  Children and adults can pay to add to the record breaking attempt, lets see how long it can get
!  Next week we will see if we can measure how long it is!  Also, please bring along your water balloons, super soakers and water guns - a water fight may be on the cards!

Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 25th June 2018

This week we have been taking part in the Mathletics Summer Challenge.  Everyone from year 1 to year 4 has been trying to earn as many points as possible.  The competition continues to Sunday, so over the weekend as part of your home learning, let's see how many points you can earn.  Log on to Mathletics and off you go!  We will print out certificates on Monday...Who will have the highest score?

Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 25th June

This week we have been finding out more about the World Cup and the nations competing in it.  The children have read and answered questions relating to this and also written their own acrostic poems about Asia, Our World and the Continents of the world.  There has been some super vocabulary used, great description and lots of topic related words.  At home try writing phrases and sentences about your favourite countries.

We have been practicing for our sports day by learning new, inclusive games, skills and being in a team.  Photos to follow!
Lastly a reminder that it is our class assembly on Friday 6th July at 9:20 in the school hall.  Year 4 will be performing their Samba directly after this (location to be confirmed).

Y2 - Golden Tickets, Golden Invitation - 15th June 2018

The children received their very own Golden Ticket today.  On the back was the following message:

Greetings to you, the lucky Parents of children in year 2,
We will be having a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Drama / Science and Technology chocolate inventing day on Friday 6th July 2018.  Tremendous things are in store for the children!  They are invited to come to school dressed as a character from the story.  They will be taking part in drama, science and technology themed sessions to celebrate our learning over the last few weeks.  Not only will the child be inventing new and amazing confections, but there will also be time for tasting too in our Wonka end of year party and at our Wonka Pop Up Shop!  In order to do this we will need some help with ingredients, please sign up on the list in the classroom to indicate what you are able to bring.  Please send the food in with the children on Friday the 6th.  This is also the day of our class assembly, so please come and see what we have been learning this term.  One more thing – be certain your child has this ticket with them, otherwise they will not be admitted!
Warm Regards
The Year 2 Team

Indi-Rose in year 2 has thought of an exciting project which could raise lots of money for our Big Project.  Thinking big, Indi-Rose with the help of you, would like to create a Loom Band which stretches all of the way to Maiden Castle!  There will be a stall at our Summer Fair next weekend.  We need your help though.  If you have any loom bands gathering dust we could put them to a really good use!

Year 2 - Serious Mashing - 14th June 2018

During our ICT lesson this week we had children who were completely absorbed in their learning.  The reason being; we were trying something new in Purple Mash.  The children were using 2Calculate which is a spreadsheet programme to build a scenario where you had to buy items in a shop.  They used the tools really well and well done to Ella who went home to finish her shop spreadsheet.  Also Oscar has proved to be a
true ICT champion, teaching lots of other children and sharing his enthusiasm for 2DIY - a maze building programme.  You can access purple mash at home by using your child's login which is stuck into their reading journal.

Image result for World cup 2018

This week is our World Cup Challenge Activity.  Each of the children has been assigned a country that is competing in the World Cup Football Tournament.  I would like everyone to find out a bit more about their country.  Can you find where it is in the world?  Look for pictures on the internet.  Can you find some interesting facts?  What is the weather like there?  What animals live there?  Who is in their football team?  When will they be playing?  What is the capital city for your country?  How long would it take to get there?  What does their money look like?
I have provided you all with a piece of cardboard and the flag for your country.  Good Luck!

Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 11th June 2018

Image result for usain bolt 100m recordThis week we have been solving more problems and measuring using cm and m.  The week ended with us measuring how far we could run in 9.58 seconds - Usain Bolt's world record time for the 100m; throwing bean bags and measuring our own throws and seeing how far we could jump.  It was great fun learning out in the sunshine and using our maths in real situations.  What can you measure at home?

Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 11th June 2018

A couple of things to look at when writing at home:  Capital letters in the right places, Spelling the common words in the middle of the reading record, and using WOW words that they have heard in their own writing.

Image result for golden ticket

This week we have really got into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  We have looked at the language Roald Dahl uses to describes the rooms and the sweets made in the factory.  All of the children then tried to use some of these wonderful words in their writing.  The children then let their imaginations run wild and designed their own sweets, writing recipes with some magical ingredients.  Lastly the children were given a golden ticket today and we read chapter 11 - The miracle, where Charlie finds the golden ticket.  We also watched the film clip.  Everyone then had a go at writing their own invitation to go on the back of the ticket.  A whole week of wonderful writing!

Keep your eyes peeled for the Golden Tickets, information will also be given on the Blog!
