FINAL Reminder - Home Learning Competition!

Just a quick reminder that Mr. Farrington, Miss. Johnson and Mr. Spracklen would like to see some fantastic examples of ‘Home Learning’ captured in a photograph. We are thinking art projects, work on Mathletics, spelling practice, visits to museums, reading, having a discussion on SWGfL Merlin, doing some research and much more! The opportunities are endless and special attention will be given to those entries that think creatively. As a prize we hope to feature the best images on a newly designed home learning booklet that all pupils will be using in September. Therefore, by submitting your photographs to the competition you are agreeing that they can be used for this purpose. All competition entries should be sent by email to the school office (office@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk) no later than 3.30pm on Friday 6th July, 2012. Any questions please see Mr. Spracklen or Miss. Johnson. Thank you for your continued support, Mr. Spracklen

Home learning Challenge - Safety

This week in Literacy, we are exploring issues of safety, following our trip to Streetwise. I wonder if children can tell their adults at home what they have learnt. Perhaps you could go around your house, looking for anything that is unsafe? Could you make a leaflet or a video explaining to others how to be safe? If you do, please bring it in to show us in class… and earn some hot points.

Reminder - Streetwise Trip

Monday 25th June - Trip to LV Streetwise Activity Centre, Bournemouth. LV Streetwise is a life sized, indoor, award winning, safety ‘village’ of scenarios which are traditionally built ‘bricks and mortar’ scenes from everyday life. The village includes a full sized two-storey house, a high street, a park, a farmyard, a, electricity sub-station, a heath, a beach, a building site and even Police and railway stations. By making the scenarios as realistic as possible, the exciting and memorable interactive Safety Tours enable children to easily apply the learning in their everyday life.

Our Trip to Kimmeridge

On Wednesday, Year 2 went on a trip to Kimmeridge. We looked in rock pools and saw lots of marine life. On the flat rocks, we went face snorkelling. We climbed up a hill and had a snack. It was bright, sunny and hot. Stinky Corner was full of squelchy seaweed. It smelt eggy and fishy because it was rotting. We thought it was revolting, but we learnt that the creatures like it. Our trip was adventurous and brilliant. We had great fun. SHARE WRITING FROM Y.2 LITERACY ON 21/06/12

What did you think of our Soirée?

A big well done to all our performers who did the school proud last night in our annual Summer Musical Soirée! If you missed it, we had Recorders, Guitars, Violins, Drums, a Cello, a Saxophone, a Mystery Guest plus so much more! We also had a group of World Famous Performers (also known as the Prince of Wales School Staff Choir). We would love to know what you thought of the Summer Musical Soirée and welcome your comments using this blog. Simply click the blog title (on the school website) - scroll to the bottom of the page and add text in the field which says: 'Post a comment'. Choose your account type or alternatively click name/url. To publish your post click 'Publish'.

I would like to say a thank-you to everyone who helped to make the evening such a success. Special thanks must go to: Miss. Broodle, Mrs. Staddon, Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Bernard, Mr. Cree, Mr. Thornton, Mrs. Hopkins and Dorchester Middle School for hosting. Mr. Spracklen

Class Assembly Information

Our class assembly is on Friday 15th June at 9.20am. We will be dressing up for our assembly, however, we do not require any costumes from home. We would like your children to arrive at school slightly earlier if possible to help us prepare for a prompt 9.20am start. We will therefore be opening the classroom door from 8.30 onwards. We would also welcome any more director style chairs if you have them at home or from a friend maybe? Your child should have received their assembly words home on Monday, if for any reason you require another copy, please see Mrs. Webb or myself. Mr. Spracklen

Euro 2012 Home Learning Project

As you may, or may not know, Euro 2012 has kicked off in style in Poland and the Ukraine with the first round of group games taking place over the last few days. As a class we will be using the Euros to support our work in Maths and other subjects across the curriculum.

As with the Rugby World Cup 2011, children in Year 2 have each been given a nation to follow/support during the tournament. Due to the smaller number of teams that take part in a European Championship compared to a Football World Cup each nation will have two pupils following/supporting them. While proving to be great fun, I also hope that this will encourage our pupil’s global awareness and geographical understanding. You will soon receive a letter with this information in as well as details of your child's nation. If you haven't by the end of the week, then please see me or Mrs. Webb. As well as following/supporting their nation, I have encouraged the class to complete some home learning on their nation during the next couple of weeks and will provide an opportunity for pupils to share their learning in a special 'Euro Party Day' on Friday 29th June. In previous years, pupils engaged in similar projects have made posters, booklets or PowerPoint presentations about their country to share with the class. We look forward to seeing all the pupil's home learning projects. Mr. Spracklen on behalf of the Year 2 Team.

Reminder - Musical Soirèe

A quick reminder that the Prince of Wales Musical Soirèe is going to be taking place on Tuesday 12th June at 6pm in the Dorchester Middle School hall. Doors open at 5.45pm for a Drinks Reception that will include canapés created by each class as part of our Food for Life work. The purpose of the celebration is for all children to gain experience in performing in front of an audience and see the progress our children are making musically as they progress through the school and beyond. If you would like to join us for the celebration please speak to a member of the Office Team. Mr. Spracklen

As the Diamond Jubilee celebrations officially come to an end, we would love to accept your spare bunting that you may now be taking down. We hope to use the bunting as part of our Musical Soiree at Dorchester Middle School on Tuesday 12th June, 2012. Any spare bunting can be given to Mr. Spracklen or Mrs. Webb a.s.a.p.
