Y2 - Incredible India Day - 26th October 2016

Thank you for coming along to our Pop Up Indian Restaurant last week.  We had a lovely time and all of the food and dancing went down a treat.  What a great ending to our first topic!  Pictures to follow on the school website.

Y2 Big Write Success - 26th October 2016

All of the children did wonderfully well in their big write last week.  We had some lovely jungle stories, lots of great description and use of characters and setting.  The children also showed understanding of creating a story with a beginning, middle and end.  Thank you very much for supporting them at home with this, it does make all the difference.  The children have since gone back to their stories, shared them with their friends and peer assessed them. 

Y2 - Half Term Spellings - 26th October 2016

Sorry for the late posting of the half term spellings!  Your child should have brought home a sheet that contains common exception words for year 1 and year 2.  Initially the challenge for the children is to read these words.  When your child can read all of these tricky words they then need to see if they can spell them.  Maybe take a couple of the words a week, as we will in class, pop them on the fridge and each time you come across them ask your child to spell them, find fun ways of remembering them, make them with magnetic letters, put them into a sentence, etc.  On Friday 4th November we will be checking how far the children have got with the reading and spelling of some of these words, we will then check near the end of term to see how much progress we have made.  Hope you are all enjoying the holidays - and don't forget the royal visit tomorrow!

Royal visit - arrangments 27/10/16

We have received slight changes to Thursday for the Royal visit. All children and parents from The Prince of Wales School now need to meet at the security tent which will be located at the top of Peverell Avenue East. Please be there for 10 -10.15am latest.  Mr Scott (Lexi’s dad) is going to be a representative for the school so please make yourself familiar to him when you arrive.

Mr Scott has kindly suggested that anyone wishing to park may do so at his business. This is Deane Computer Solutions, unit 6A middle Farm Way, Dorchester. DT1 3AR.

Bling Your Bike - Friday 21st October

“Bling Your Bike Morning”

Yes that is “Bling”, although we would like you to “Bring” your bikes too!

This Friday 21st October we will be holding another “Bling Your Bike” event. This is to promote “Being Safe by Being Seen” when out on your bikes and scooters. We are having a competition to see who can make their bike or scooter extra colourful and bright ,- so that it really stands out!

The children may score extra marks for having bright, colourful clothing that they can put on when parading their “blinged”-bike.

Children who would like to take part in the competition should bring their bikes to school on the morning of Friday 21^st October. Winners will be decided during the day and we have some nice prizes, kindly donated by Sustrans

It is important that any materials added to your bike or scooter should not be in the way of moving parts.

Y2 India Day Film - 18th October 2016

As part of our India day and as a reward for the hard work that the children have put in over this half term I would like to show them the new Jungle Book film.  This film is a PG and as such I need to ask your permission.  If you have any objections, please let the year 2 team know.

Yr 2 Praise assembly for week ending 14th October

The Book fayre has impacted reading this week, so many children choosing to read books when they can, even at play time!

The class have been working really hard this week, lots of children attained Super Hero certificates and a fair amount of whole class praises have been placed into our marble jar too!

So, this week, the following children were praised:

Music - Tom, Josie, Ziva and Mai - super efforts in listening and moving to rhythms as well as playing rhythms they created on xylophones!

RE - Sophie and Reece, asking lots of questions when learning about the festival of Divali.

Alfie B - wow, amazing reading aloud!

Nell, Flynn and Clark - presenting super maths effort and results this week through sessions

Sunny and George - focussing on their handwriting, presenting joined cursive writing.

Inzi - making the right choices when faced with a tricky situation!

Louis - super effort in writing the beginnings a of his Jungle book based story!
