Farm visit tomorrow!

Hello everyone, just a quick reminder about the farm trip tomorrow. 

Children can wear suitable trousers from home tomorrow but we please ask that children wear their school tops and jumper/cardigan. If your child has wellies then please send them in wearing them, if not old trainers will be fine. Can children have their school shoes in their bag. We also suggest sending in a warm and waterproof coat as the weather doesn't look too good.

This week in Year 2!

 Hi everyone, I hope you all have a great weekend!

I just want to apologise for those who didn't see the blog last week. For some reason it didn't upload properly for everyone. Hopefully this one will be ok.

What a great week we have had in Year 2 this week. We are now 3 weeks into the term and we are fully immersed in Year 2 life. We have a very busy week ahead of us! However, I will start by letting you know what we have done in class this week. 

In Literacy we have been creating our own superheroes and then adding these to a story that each child has created by themselves. In Maths we have continued to look at numbers to 100, and started to look at 10s and 1s on a number line. In Science we investigated which materials are waterproof and which ones aren't. 

All children are now in their new RWI groups after their assessment and this is going well. 

Next week we have lots of different things going on as listed below;

- Monday - Start of food, faith and farming fortnight

- Tuesday - POWSA book fair begins!

- Thursday - We are taking part in a Judaism workshop

- Friday - Farm trip (more information to be shared about this in the week) and an Islam workshop.

Lots of pictures will be shared of these events that are happening next week.

Amazing week in Year 2!

Hello everyone, I hope you have a great weekend!

We have had an amazing week in Year 2, and the children are getting used to being in Year 2 and the expectations and routines that come with it. 

In Maths we have continued to look at numbers to 100, especially the 10s and 1s in a number and how to partition numbers using a part whole model. In Literacy we have looked at using adjectives to describe superheroes and also learnt what a noun is and how to use one. See if your child/children can name any nouns around your home! In Science we were investigating materials, what we could touch and what we could see.

We are also starting to learn how to join up our handwriting and the children are working so hard with this!

Thank you to those who came to the parent information session. If you couldn't make it, the recording of this will be shared soon. If you have any questions about this or from anything mentioned, please let me know.

In relations to RWI all children have now been assessed and will be in their new/same groups on Tuesday. This means if the children are on the phonics programme that spellings and reading books will resume. If your children are in my RWI spelling group, I have changed the days for spellings. Your children will now come home on a friday with their spellings and will be tested on these the following Friday.

Year 2 parent information session change!

Hi everyone, hope you're having a good start to the week. 

I just wanted to let you know that the Year 2 parent information session on Thursday 15th September will now be in the hall at 9am instead of the staff room. Individual school photos will also now be on Friday 16th September.

First week in Year 2!

Hi everyone! WOW what a week we have had in Year 2. I am so incredibly proud of how the children have settled straight back in and their behaviour to learning is super!

We have started our topic of superheroes and the children are so engaged and are excited by it! In Literacy we have read a book called Patcho and Pigeon: The Dynamic Duo and have been creating our own gadgets and writing character descriptions. In Maths we are looking at numbers to 100 and especially the 10s and 1s in a number. Science is focussed on materials and their properties this week where we were inspectors of different objects. We created a class charter of our rights and responsibilities in the classroom and school. 

PE will now be moved to a Tuesday afternoon and we also have basketball on a friday with Coach Luca. Some children have still not brought their PE kits in, so please can these come in soon. 

RWI assessments are taking place this week and next. Please expect some movement in groups from your children. This is the reason why some children did not come home with a book or spellings. 

Home learning will also be a bit different this year. I will be adding this to the blog on a Friday, to ensure we aren't using too much paper. Children should then bring this in the following week. We have folders in class that we can add any paper home learning to. We can also add pictures of any creations children may make. I hope this makes sense!

Welcome to Year 2!

Hi everyone! I hope you've had the most amazing summer and are looking forward to starting school again! I am so excited to be welcoming you back into Year 2. I have been so excited and am definitely feeling a few butterflies. We also have a brand new outdoor area which I am sure the children will absolutely love!

I (Miss White) will be waiting at the Year 2 door to welcome you all in the morning. We will be joined by Mrs Hibberd, Mrs Scott (the second half of this term), Mrs Burgess and Miss Greedy who is a trainee teacher on placement with us. 

There is a parent information session on Thursday 15th of September at 9am where I will be letting you all know about what amazing things we have planned for Year 2. 

Just a few reminders before coming back tomorrow;

- Uniform: Please ensure all uniform is named (including PE kits). We had lots of unnamed uniform left last year that we couldn't find a home for.

- Water bottles: Please can all children have a named water bottle.

- Snacks: Just a reminder we are a healthy school and encourage children to bring in a healthy snack. We have a weekly delivery of fruit which children can also have.

- PE kits: PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon, please can you send kits in before then.

- Topic: Our topic for this half term is Superheroes and we have lots of exciting and inspiring things planned!

If your child has managed to fill out their summer holiday diary, please can you send this in tomorrow. I am so excited to see what you have been up to!
