   Suffixes  

To use suffixes to generate new words from root words.

These suffixes may help you :- 

-ing, -ship, -er, -ful, -est, -ness, -ly, -ment, -ish, -hood, -dom, -less, -like

Here are some words you know. They are called 'root' words.  Can you make some other words that start with them by adding suffixes ?   (How about 15 new words?)

start         child  

glad           nice 

cold           joy

enjoy         ask 

hope          friend

beauty       free

run            happy

2. Mathematical investigation  -Make the Magic Potion:

Insects 6 legs

Lizards 4 legs

Bats 2 legs

Potion must have a total of 12 legs.

Can you make 5 different “12-leg-potions” ?

example   potion one  - 3 Lizards    4 + 4 + 4 = 12 legs

Year Two - Daedalus and Icarus

 

In Year Two this week we are looking at the ancient Greek myth "Daedalus and Icarus".

Year Two - Class Assembly

 

We have given the children a copy of their "Lines" for our Year 2 Class Assembly. It would be great if they could have a go at practising these at home over the next week.

On Friday (13th), Mr Spracklen is going to record the children reading their lines so that we can put together a documentary-style presentation to share with you some of the work we have been doing since we started Year 2. 

This presentation will be available to be viewed online as our Year Two Class Assembly the following week (hopefully on the Friday 20th November as previously advertised).

Year 2 Home Learning   -  Poetry           Friday 6th November

Can you make up a poem about a monster where you describe the monster using things that you don’t like?

This is the monster

I made up last week.

A monster so scary

I’m now losing sleep!

It has…

Make a list of things that you don’t like.  Then put these into the poem about a monster.

barbed-wire , stinging nettles , car alarm noise,  cold porridge, wasp-stings, bullies,  burning the toast, getting a library fine,  getting a puncture on my bike, having an argument, dusting the house, having toothache

Here’s an example:

It has barbed-wired feet

And stinging nettle arms

When singing it sounds

Like the noise of car alarms

It has  cold porridge for eyes

And a wasp sting nose 

It has bullies for fingers

And burnt toast for toes

It has library fines for teeth

And flat tyres for eyes

It sounds like an argument

Whenever it cries.

My poem uses rhyme, but yours does not have to.
