This week I have given the children common words to learn that I have identified that they have got wrong in recent writing. Although these spellings seem quite simple, we are looking for the children to be able to retain these spellings not just learn them and forget them!
This week I have given red and orange spellings on the same sheet. This is because I thought it would better to let the children assess which level is right for them. If your child is in the red or orange group they may choose from either the red or orange list (not both). Yellow and Green groups spelling stays the same. The spellings for this week are:
Red: could, would, should, who, whole, any, many
Orange: our, house, full, pull, push. put
Yellow as orange.
Green: said, the what , do
Happy learning!

Year 2 - Victorian Day and Class Assembly - 5th January 2018
We will be having a Victorian Drama Day on Wednesday 17th January 2018. The children will need to come to school on this day dressed in their Victorian costumes that they wore to the Priest House Museum before Christmas. The children will be taking part in 4 activities and having afternoon tea with Queen Victoria herself! All of this will inspire our writing in the weeks to come and lead up to our next big write! Also our class assembly will be on Friday 26th January at 9:20am in the school hall. You are all welcome to come along and see what we have been learning so far this term. Please could the children wear their Victorian costumes to school on this day for the assembly and bring their uniform to change into afterwards?
Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 2nd January 2018
This week we have been focusing on multiplication and division. We have been detectives and tracked down and spotted patterns in our numbers and number sequences. We have used lots of vocabulary and begun to write number sentences involving multiplication and division. Using equipment and pictures of groups of objects we have begun to understand how multiplication describes groups of objects and how these can be represented in different ways. Some of the words we have been using this week are:
Product (What you get when you multiply two or more numbers)
Repeated Addition (How you can show a multiplication using addition: 5x2= 2+2+2+2+2)
Commutative property (you can do it in any order 3x5 has the same answer as 5x3)
Array (A square or rectangle of dots representing a multiplication)
Groups of../ Lots of..
I would be interested in hearing if any of the children are remembering what these words mean or can explain any of the principals even if they can't remember the exact vocabulary.
This week's home learning relates to this learning, please see previous blog.

Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 2nd January 2018
This week we have been writing recounts of our holidays and new year. We have been concentrating on writing in full sentences, making our writing lively and interesting for the reader and adding detail where it was needed. The children have been motivated and resilient with their writing and have had great success at writing two excellent reports. Over this term it is our aim to write for a sustained period every day to really embed the skills that children are learning. Next week we have our visit from a real live author to look forward to and our best writing will be on show!
Year 2 - Parent's Information Session - 5th January 2018 for 10th January 2018
Year 2 - Home Learning - 5th January 2018
This week we have
been working hard to learn all about multiplication and division. One of the activities we have enjoyed is our
multiplication and division work book.
The children have asked if they can bring these booklets home so that
they can do some more. For home learning
this week, please help your child to complete one or more pages in the
booklet or the worksheet that I have sent instead. Talk about multiplication as lots of or groups of and
division as sharing, grouping or "how many 2s can you fit in 10?", for example. Can they explain how to
divide? Please bring the workbook back
to school next week so that we can finish them in school. Also, don't panic if there is something that your child cannot yet do in the booklet. This is the first week of a 3 week block on Multiplication and Division, so there will be plenty of time to work on these areas.Tuesday, 2 January 2018
