Sport relief on FRIDAY- 'Go that extra mile'

Just a quick reminder about Sports Relief on Friday! The children will have the chance to dress up as something funny to raise lots of money for Sports relief, which I am sure you will all agree is a great cause.

There are a lots of ideas about what everyone could dress up as. The children could come in to school with their clothes inside out, odd clothing, fancy dress clothes, funny hair oh the possibilities are endless!! Year 2 will be taking part in the 'run a mile' on the field on Friday morning.

The staff this year are also holding

Judged by the school council reps, the staff will be judged on the foods appearance and taste. The only rule is that it has to have something red in. Stay tuned for Year 2's baking pictures!

Mrs W the very strict teacher, smoothies and super heroes!

Well we have had a busy couple of days! On Thursday we had a visit from a Victorian school teacher. Our classroom was transformed and Mrs W the very strict teacher made us all chant the alphabet and pay her a penny to come in to the classroom! The children enjoyed playing along and had lots to write about after Mrs W left.

We have also had fruit squash cocktails and smoothies.

Today all of the children came in dressed up as super heroes. It was great to see how creative the children were with their costumes. We have taken some really good photos which we will share with you next week.

Rich and poor Victorians

This week we have been looking at Victorian houses. The children have learnt all about the different types of houses and what you could have seen in them. We found a brilliant website where you could take a virtual tour of a Victorian house. I will put this on our Year 2 pupil links.

In Maths this week we are using the film 'Madagascar'. The children have been outside and given their partner directions to move around the playground. They then used this to write directions for the Penguins in the zoo to escape! Tomorrow is all about making smoothie cocktails for Gloria (the Hippo).

We sent home a mask template today. The children do not have to use them but we thought if a few of you were struggling for ideas then they can use them. We discussed today that maybe the children might wear a mask and a cape and then their plain home clothes. This is obviously not what you have to do but a suggestion. The idea of the super hero is to be something that the children are good at from eating lots of fruit, being a mathematician, great swimmer, listener, helpful... the list could go on!

What Superhero will you be?

Next Friday (14th March) is our Superhero dress up day. The children are not meant to dress up as well known characters such as Batman, superman etc but make up there own superhero. Some examples could be:

- Super maths boy or Super friendly superhero.

If you are stuck for ideas it might be worth talking to others about their ideas. I was thinking that a mask that covers eyes and maybe a cape would be a good idea? The children could design their own cape showing some pictures of what their super power is?

Today was world book day. Although we did not celebrate this today we are going to be having a special reading week in a few week times. We will be doing lots of activities and the children will have a chance to share with us their favourite books.

Working children in the Victorian Era.

It's been great to see so many of your travelling to school on wheels. Keep it going! We are highest in the school at the moment for the amount of children on bikes and scooters. We have had a bit of a lull today so it would be great to see a boost in numbers tomorrow. Cycling or scooting to school really wakes the children up and gets them ready for their learning in the morning.

This week we have started looking at the Victorian Era. Yesterday Mrs Webb explained all about what the Victorian Era means and the children got to look at some brilliant resources online. Today we have been recalling some facts that we have learnt about street children and their life in Victorian Britain. The children have all said that they would not like to have lived in Victorian times and I have to agree!

Year 2 were really shocked to learn that some children as young as 5 were sent to work and were sold to factories, mines and rich people!

Cycle or scoot to school!

Today was the start of our ride to school fortnight. John from sustrans was a bike doctor today and looked at lots of the children's bikes.

Everyday we will be asking the children if they have cycled of scooted in to school. We collect points every day towards some special super heros and prizes for the school. We even collect points for parents and grandparents! So please make sure that your child cycles or scooters in to school. We will also try and take lots of photos.

With this awful weather at the moment please remember to wear high visibility clothing and helmets.
