Year 2: Week 3 round up!

🌟 Year 2 Weekly Round-Up: A Busy Week of Learning! 🌟

What a fantastic and full week we’ve had in Year 2! The children have been busy learning across the curriculum, with lots of creativity, teamwork and outdoor learning. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to:

📖 English – Grandad’s Camper

In English this week, we’ve been diving into the lovely story Grandad’s Camper. The children have been focusing on expanded noun phrases, learning how to add extra detail to their writing using adjectives and descriptive phrases. We’ve enjoyed spotting powerful descriptions in the book and having a go at creating our own to make our writing more exciting and vivid.

🔺 Maths – Shape

We’ve started a brand-new Maths unit all about shape. The children have been exploring both 2D and 3D shapes, learning to name them and talk about their properties, such as sides, vertices and faces.
👉 Home learning this week links directly to this unit, so it’s a great chance for the children to show you what they know at home.

🌱 Science – Habitats and Gardening

Science has been very hands-on this week! On Monday, we went into the garden to learn about habitats. The children enjoyed searching for insects, thinking about where they live and why, and even making a bug hotel to encourage more wildlife into our garden.

Due to wet weather, Forest School moved indoors, but that didn’t stop us! The children worked brilliantly in teams to design and make habitats, thinking carefully about what animals and insects need to survive.

Today, we were very lucky to have Mr Farrington visit us. He worked with the children to audit the habitats in our school grounds, helping us think about what we already have and what we could improve to make our school even more wildlife-friendly.

🐦 Big Garden Birdwatch

This week we’re also taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. T
👉 Here is a link to the RSPB Birdwatch– we’d love to hear what birds you spot!

🐾 Special Visitors and New Class Pets

We’ve also had some very exciting animal news in Year 2! We have welcomed new millipedes as class pets, and the children have been fascinated learning how to care for them and observing how they move and behave. This afternoon, we were also lucky enough to have a visiting gecko lizard, which linked brilliantly to our Science learning about animals and habitats. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed real curiosity and respect for living things.

👩‍🏫 Parents’ Evening

A reminder that Parents’ Evening is taking place next week. If you haven’t been able to book a slot yet, please do let me know and I will be happy to help.

If there is anything specific you would like to discuss or any support materials you would like to see to help your child at home, please contact me in advance so I can have this ready for our meeting.

I’m really looking forward to meeting with you and sharing your child’s progress.Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It’s been a joy to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic about their learning this week 💚

Have a lovely weekend!
