Collision Detection in 2Code

Today in Computing with Mr Spracklen, Year 2 explored an exciting new coding idea called collision detection. This is when the computer recognises that two objects have touched each other and makes something happen as a result.

We began by thinking back to last week’s Air Traffic Control game. We remembered how the helicopter made a sound when it collided with the plane. That was an example of a collision detection event in action!

Using 2Code, we worked through the Princess and Frog activities.

First, we made the princess move across the screen and stop when she bumped into the frog. Then we added a second action – the frog magically changed into a prince when the collision happened!

By the end of the lesson, we could:

  • Plan an algorithm that uses collision detection.

  • Create a program where something happens when two objects collide.

  • Read blocks of code and predict what the program would do.

Stay tuned for more #InspiredToLearn coding fun!
