Week 4 - Spring term

Hello everyone, we hope you've had a great weekend! Can't believe how close we are to half term. This year seems to be flying by.

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 2. We have finished our unit in Power Maths and we will now be starting our new unit - multiplication and division. In Literacy this week we have been creating our own mythical creatures and have written a non-chronological report about this. The children were so excited by this! Next week will be focusing on inspired writing. In Science we have been continuing to look at living things and their habitats. This week children made their own diorama that represented a habitat. Next week we will be continuing this topic and looking at microhabitats.

Next week everyone needs to expect the unexpected!! We have some incredibly exciting things happening next week and we can't wait for you to find out about it!!

Just a reminder that parent consultations are on Tuesday and Thursday. I look forward to seeing you then.

Any questions please email me.

Week 3 - Spring term

Happy Sunday everyone! We hope you have had a great weekend.

What a great week we have in Year 2! We were lucky enough to finish the week with a chinese dragon workshop. During this workshop children learnt all about the dragon, played a range of instruments and took part in a traditional chinese dragon dance. Every child loved this - even if it was VERY loud.

In Maths we have been continuing to look at money - pounds and pence. This unit will continue next week. In Literacy we have looked at writing postcards and letters, learning how to structure these properly and what we need to include. Next week in Literacy we will be looking at mythical creatures and writing non chronological reports. In Science we continued to look at living things and their habitats. We drew our own animal and the habitat in which it lives in and matched animals to their habitat. Next week we will be continuing to look at habitats and why different habitats are suitable to different animals.

Year 1 and Year 2 will be going on a trip soon to Waterstones to visit an author and will be going to the library. A letter about this will be coming out next week.

If anyone has any spare shoe boxes or small/medium boxes please can you bring these in tomorrow or Tuesday. Thank you in advance!

Look out for an email to book your parent consultation slot. If you have any problems with this, please email me.

See you all tomorrow!

Week 2 - Spring Term

Happy Sunday everyone, we hope you have had a great weekend!
WOW! What another great week we have had in Year 2! Some of the children have said how quickly the year is going already, and we completely agree with them.

This week has been another very busy and exciting week in Year 2. I just want to start by saying thank you to those who came to the parent information session. Mr Spracklen will be sharing the video for those who couldn't make it.

This week we have completed our unit 2D and 3D shapes in Maths. Tomorrow we will be starting out unit all about money. In Literacy children wrote some amazing acrostic poems and looked at expanded noun phrases. Next week we will be focussing on letter and postcard writing. In Science we have been continuing to look at living things and their habitats. In Geography this week we looked at England - the surrounding countries and seas, famous landmarks, famous people and also where different types of food comes from. We completed a fact file all about England. Next week we will be looking at Wales.

We were also lucky enough to have a planetarium in school this week. It was an immersive experience where we looked at different planets. The children loved this!

Just a reminder to check that your child has their PE in school as we still have some children without this.

Any questions, please email me.

Happy New Year and welcome to the Spring term!

Happy new year to you all! We hope you've had the most magical christmas and wonderful new year. We are so excited to be welcoming back your children tomorrow for the start of the Spring term.

This half term we welcome Miss Carney, who is a trainee teacher and will be based in Year 2.

Our topic this half term is 'The United Kingdom', where we will be learning all about the countries that make up the UK. At the end of the topic children will be creating presentations in groups to share to each other about a country in the UK of their choice. We will be inviting families in to watch this and to see what they have produced.

This half term we are lucky enough to have Mr Treble teaching our PE lessons. Our lessons will now be on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have a named PE in school.

Children were assessed in RWI before the christmas holidays. This may mean that your child has moved groups or may be in the same one. Reading books will be coming home this week as will spellings. Also, please remember reading records are due in every Friday. Home learning will also resume on Friday.

Any questions, please email me or catch me at the door!

See you all tomorrow, we are so excited to start the Spring term!
