Year Two - Home Learning Ideas

 Home Learning  Year Two

HAVE A FABULOUSLY HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Should you wish to do a little extra writing practice at home over the holiday, here is a possible activity:

 -  Response to a “story introduction”.

Can you write the next part of the story, following on from this introduction? :

I was feeling very odd when I woke up this morning. I was strangely hot and felt as if I wanted to scratch myself. When my alarm clock went off it actually scared me, and I leapt out of bed. I landed lightly on my feet.

When I looked into my bedroom mirror I couldn’t believe what I saw.

Could this be possible?

I had turned into a chimpanzee!!!

We are also sending home some "Multiplication and Division" practice sheets for the 2 , 5 and 10 times tables, if you fancy having a go at these.

The main and most important activity for the next two weeks, however, is to..
HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS BREAK WITH LOTS OF SMILES AND LAUGHTER!

Winter Reading Challenge

Dear Year Two,

We wanted to make sure that you are aware of a Mini-Winter Reading Challenge that you may wish to take part in. All you have to do is read at least 3 books between Tuesday 1 December 2020 and Friday 15 January 2021. Now I know that you're likely to read more than 3 books in that time, - so perhaps that can be the ultimate challenge - How many books can you read?

Although this link mentions the Summer reading Challenge, it will take you to the page you need:

COUNTRIES IN EUROPE CHALLENGE!

Can you find out the names of some of the countries in Europe?

If you look at a map of Europe you could see where these countries are. Which ones are close to England? Which are further away? Which countries are bigger and which are smaller?

Next week, we will challenge the children in Year Two to name as many countries in Europe as they can.

Can you learn the names of five?----ten? --- or maybe, twenty?--- even more?!!

EUROPE (47 countries)

Year Two - Elves , Plastic Bottles and Pantomime Costumes

Elves , Plastic Bottles and Pantomime Costumes

Dear Year Two Parents,

Some reminders:

Next  Monday (7th) we have a visit from a theatre group who are performing “The Elves and the Shoemakers”. We are encouraging children to get into the spirit of the event by wearing Christmas hats/elf-costumes (red and green) for the day.

On Tuesday (8th) we are filming our contribution to our “Christmas Performance”. The children (and staff) will be encouraged to wear their pantomime costumes for the whole of the day.

Plastic bottles and newspaper - We would be really grateful to any of you who could provide plastic bottles and newspaper for us to use in our “ancient Greek vase project” that we will  be busy with over the next couple of weeks.

Year Two - Adventure Stories

 Writing an Adventure Story

The children are going to be having a go at writing their own stories in the style of an ancient myth. We have talked about the key elements required for this: - having a hero or heroine that needs to go on a quest to find something/ rescue someone, etc  -  and who has adventures along the way (involving mythical creatures and magical assistance, etc)

The children are planning out their stories and are going to be writing a section on Thursday and Friday, and then again next week.

I will be modelling the writing of my own story to help the children to structure and organise their story-writing; and to draw attention to how to develop characters, settings and the plot.

It would be great if you could chat to your child about their story (– the plot, the characters, the monsters) and so help them to have some good ideas about the content of their story.
