Home Learning - Year Two Wednesday 30th January

Home Learning - Year Two       Wednesday 30th January

Wonderful World
For their “Home Learning” activity this week I have suggested that the children make up a poem under the title “What a Wonderful World”. They should try to include images and ideas that make them feel happy and put a smile on their faces.

In class we have listened to “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong and talked about the words in the song.

Many Thanks,

Duncan MacBean

Year Two - Writing an Adventure Story

Writing an Adventure Story
This week, the children in Year Two are going to be having a go at writing their own adventure stories in the style of an ancient myth.
We have talked about the key elements required for this: - having a hero or heroine that needs to go on a quest/ to find something/ rescue someone,  - and who has lots of adventures along the way (involving mythical creatures and magical assistance, etc)
The children are planning out their stories and are going to be writing a section each day.
I will be modelling the writing of my own story to help the children to structure and organise their story-writing; and to draw attention to how to develop characters, settings and the plot.
It would be great if you could chat to your child about their story (the plot, the characters, the monsters) and so help them to have a good, secure idea about the content that they are going to develop over the week.

Year Two - Times Tables Rock Stars

We have introduced the children in Year Two to a new on-line game to help develop their "times tables" skills. This is something that we would encourage them to "play" at home.
Today, I have sent home user names and passwords.  - I have sellotaped these to the backs of their "Spelling Journals", or in some cases to the inside of their "book bags". It would be great if you could make a note of this when they get home.
The children can access the website using the pupil links on the school web page. Follow "Year Two" and then "Maths" and then "ttrockstars".
 Many thanks,
DM

Cricket Session - Year Two

The children in Year Two enjoyed their first Cricket session today with visiting coach Mr. James Mitchell. Today we were focusing on our catching skills.

Home Learning – Year Two 9.1.19.

Home Learning – Year 2                           Week One Spring Term

Write down as many different totals as possible that you can get from
two different coins:

There are a lot of answers! Can you find at least 12 answers? ….or maybe more!

Show your answers like this:
1p+ 2p= 3p
1p+ 5p= 6p

Have you been systematic in your approach to this?

Year Two / Ancient Greek Myths - and Plastic Bottles Please

We are starting our English lessons this term by looking at some of the ancient Greek myths.
Today, we will be finding out about the tragic story of Orpheus and Euridice.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be using these exciting stories to provide an interesting content for developing Reading and Writing skills.
Later this half-term, we will be having a go at writing our own stories in the style of a myth!
Art Work
Alongside our work in English, we will be looking at pictures of ancient Greek pottery (decorated with scenes of their stories and their daily lives). We will be making out own "replicas" using plastic bottles covered in "papier mache".

I would be very grateful if you could provide a plastic bottle (or two) so that we can transform them into works of art. (plain, cylindrical 2-litre plastic bottles would best suit our purposes.)

We hope that you have been enjoying reading plenty of books over the holiday and that you have managed to quiz yourselves on these using the on-line "Accelerated Reader" Quizzes.

We look forward to seeing you all soon.
