Good news for all of you heartbroken children out there. Mr Allen will be able to come and join us on Friday as well this week, so we will be having our bye-bye party on Friday from 1:30-2:30pm instead of tomorrow when the weather forecast is not great!

Year 2 - Bye bye Mr Allen - 21st May 2018
Mr Allen, who has been with us since Christmas is moving on to do the final few weeks of his placement in year 4. We have really enjoyed having Mr Allen work with us for this time, he has bought lots of fun to the learning in year 2 and I know the children have really enjoyed having him teach them. Mr Allen's last day with us will be on Thursday 24th May and we plan to have a little party to celebrate his time with us and to say thank you. We will be having a snack-picnic on the field in the afternoon with fun games for the children and Mr Allen of course to join in with! We will also be singing him a special song at the end of the day.

Year 2 - Home learning - 18th May 2018
This week I have set the children either an eye-spy activity or a royal wedding mystery to solve.
Eye-Spy: The children have to spot all of the Royal Wedding characters and see how many of each they can find.
Royal Wedding Mystery: The children have 5 clues to solve to find out which wedding Harry and Meghan have chosen. As this mystery has a spelling theme, there are no additional spellings this week.
Lots of superhero point are on offer for children completing either activity.

Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 14th May 2018
This week we have been looking at missing number problems, fact families and using number lines to help us solve problems. The children have become much better at drawing their own number lines to count on or back or to find the difference. At home why not try writing two, two-digit numbers at each end of a line. Can you find the difference by jumping from one number to the other? You can jump in jumps of any size whatever is easiest. Try jumping in 10s and 1s if the children are finding it tricky or just use smaller numbers.
Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 14th May 2018
This week we have been looking at using capital letters, connectives and possessive apostrophes in our writing about sea turtles. We have also expanded our knowledge of marine life and the life cycle of sea turtles. We will be making posters next week to highlight the problems that sea turtles face and thinking of how we can help "save the turtles".
Year 2 - Super week, super resilience - 18th May 2018
A big well done to all in year 2 this week, we have faced challenges with enthusiasm and adaptability. We started and ended the week in a new workspace which we have just got on with (fingers crossed for our new classroom early next week!). We got a new TV display screen which will be coming along with us to our new classroom, a great asset to our learning. The children have given their all to our special booklets that we have been doing this week, and might I say even when things got a bit more challenging each and every child has given their best (and some have even enjoyed it!). Caitlin, Bella and Joey have also represented the school along with some year 1 children at DMS for a special sports event, they walked to and from DMS and took part with lots of enthusiasm. Well done everyone for a truly resilient week. Rodney is very proud, in fact he didn't know who to go home with until the class nominated Caitlin - Well done Caitlin!

Year 2 - Maths Learning - Week Beginning 7th May 2018
Year 2 - Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 7th May 2018
This week we have continued with our learning about Traditional Tales. The children have been working with Mr Allen to plan and write and improve their very own traditional tale. On Thursday all of the children took part in The Big Write to write their own stories and we have had some fantastic examples of work. By looking at the use of associated language, spelling, punctuation and the description of characters and settings, the children begun to look more carefully at how they can reread and improve their own work.

Year 2 - Welcoming Mrs Bell - 4th May 2018
This week we welcomed Mrs Bell to the classroom who will be covering for Mrs Cornell whilst she is away. Mrs Bell has a wealth of experience as a teacher and a TA and will be helping to support individuals within the class.
Year 2 - Chrome Book Fun - 5th May 2018
Year 2 have really enjoyed using the Chrome books for the first time this week. So far we have used them for Puprle Mash, Mathletics and Reading Eggs. We were amazed at how quickly and well children could use them. What an amazing classroom resource!
