Christmas Show and Party - Year 2

Thank you for helping out so fantastically with the costumes for our Christmas Show. All of the children looked great today in our "Dress Rehearsal"! We do hope that you get the chance to come along to the performances this week - Wednesday and Thursday.
Thank you those of you who have "signed up" for Party Food (inside front door of Y2 Class). We are hoping to make sure that we have a nice spread of different food items. Please do sign up if you can.

Costumes for our Christmas Show

Dear Year Two Parents,

We are getting ready for our Christmas Show “The Innspectors” ; to be presented to you on 19th and 20th December.

For this play, all the children will be dressing up in an assortment of costumes.
We do have a selection of costumes at the school that will suit certain characters in the play (angels, wise men, camels, sheep). We will be trying children out with these over the next couple of days.

However, we are likely to find that we could use a bit of help with some of the costumes we need.  If you could assist us with this it would be greatly appreciated.
The children playing the part of “Innspectors” will need to wear smart black and white clothes
The Roman soldiers - some sort of simple suitable costume would be great.
Townsfolk and Hotel Guests - a simple traditional Nativity costume of long robe with tying belt at waist and with accompanying headgear + sandals.
Narrators - white shirts and smart trousers

It would be great if these costumes are with us in school by 14th December - earlier would be fine.

If you have any questions or are unsure of ideas please come and see us.

How many millilitres are there in your bottle of ketchup? / or tin of soup? Have a look at the label on the bottle.

Year Two - Lines to learn for our Christmas Show

We have given the children in Year Two some lines to learn for their Christmas Show. This is a play that we are looking forward to performing entitled "The Inn-Spectors" by Nikki Lewis.
We would be very grateful if you could help the children to practise and learn their lines at home.
Many thanks,

Year Two - Home Learning - Europe Challenge

Year TWO Home Learning
COUNTRIES IN EUROPE CHALLENGE!

Can you find out the names of some of the countries in Europe?
If you look at a map of Europe you could see where these countries are. Which ones are close to England? Which are further away? Which countries are bigger and which are smaller?

Next week, we will challenge the children in Year Two to name as many countries in Europe as they can.
Can you learn the names of five?----ten? --- or maybe, twenty?--- even more?!!

Year Two - Book Bags and Accelerated Reader Books

Please can you encourage your children to bring their book bags to school every day. The book bag should contain their Log books and their Reading Books.
All children should have an ongoing "Accelerated Reader" book (from the library) which will ideally be kept in their book bags whenever it is not being read. There will be various opportunities during the school week for children in Year Two to read their "Accelerated Reader" books and take the accompanying quizzes.

Year Two - Bicycles in English Lessons

Bicycles in Year Two English Lessons
This week in our English Lessons we have be using the theme of “Bicycles” to develop our writing.
The children have had to collect facts about bicycles and group these facts into sections or paragraphs. (A non-chronological report set out like this is more useful to the reader and easier to read.)
The children in Year Two have done some really good written work.

Do make sure you have a look.

Bling Your Bike Day

A great big WELL DONE to all of the children who "blinged" their bicycles and scooters today!
We had a fantastic turn-out! Around half of the children in the school brightened the hall with a fabulously bright and colourful display.

Year Two - Home Learning wk 8 - (1.11.18.)

Year Two - Home Learning Wednesday 31st October

Nelson Research

Find the answer to as many of these questions as you can.

(You should know some of the answers from your learning at school.)

If you get stuck on a question, don’t worry, just leave it and go on to the next one. You don’t have to do them in the order that I’ve written them.

What was Nelson’s father’s job?

How old was Nelson when he first joined the navy?

What two significant injuries did Nelson get when fighting at sea?

How did Nelson famously ignore an order to retreat?

When was the Battle of Trafalgar?

How did Nelson send the famous message: “England expects every man will do his duty”?

How was Nelson killed?

Who was with Nelson when he died?

How did they preserve Nelson’s dead body so that they could bring it back to England?

Where is Nelson buried?

Where is the HMS Victory now?

Year Two Fun at the Farm

A special Thank you for Hazel for another interesting visit to Maiden Castle Farm.
Hazel talked to us about how busy things had been during the harvesting and added some details about what the farm was like during the Victorian Times.

Year Two using "Accelerated Reader Scheme"

All of the children in Year Two have now selected a book (from within their book band) and are making a start on the "Accelerated Reader Scheme".
Hopefully all parents have received a letter explaining how we are using the scheme, indicating your child's book band level and their login details for taking the "quizzes" that accompany the books.
If your letter didn't find its way home, or you need another letter, please let me know.
Happy Reading (and Quiz-taking)!

Year Two Home Learning - Wed 3rd Oct - Eco Poster

Home Learning - Year Two  Wednesday 3rd October
Eco Poster Competition

For their “home learning” this week, we would like the children in Year Two to design a poster to promote recycling.

We intend to enter the children’s posters into a competition run by Dorset County Hospital, so please ensure that all pictures are clearly identifiable with each child’s name.
The closing date for this competition is actually after half term holiday on 1st November, but we thought we would set this as a “home learning” task well in advance of this date.

Poster Details for the Competition
Pictures on A4 sized white paper blank unlined, unsquared.
Pictures by the children are to be colourful, but in any form.
Encourage the children to use an image or theme that will fill the sheet of paper
The theme is to encourage the use of recycling and how the varying ages interpret this from what they have seen at home, at school, in a supermarket, in surrounding areas and through public information services.
The prize is for the winner of each level to have their picture created into a poster for use around Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to help promote and encourage recycling of waste, with plans to promote this locally.

Fun for Year Two on Class Adventure

Two groups of Year Two children went out this week on an adventure of cross-curricular learning. We collected rocks, compared old photos with what's there today, visited two quarries, a railway station, a playground, St. Peter's Church in Portesham and Hardy's Monument - a couple of busy days (blessed with lovely weather)!
I'm looking forward to going out with a third group next week!
