Thank you all! - 20th July 2016

A massive thank you for all of the lovely cards and gifts you have given us this week.  We were completely overwhelmed with your thoughtful and imaginative
presents.  It has been a pleasure teaching you all, you have been such an enthusiastic and inspired bunch! We were particularly impressed at how conscientious and resilient many of you have become over the year as well as how much you have all grown up!  Have a fun filled holiday and come back safe in September ready to Wow Mr Macbean with your winning attitudes!
Have a fab summer and long may the sun shine.
Kind Regards
The Year 2 Team

You will be able to take your child home after the carnival, please don't forget to pick up your child's annual report as well.  It is the POWSA school disco after school on Friday . Spellings 1st July 2016 to be checked 8th July 2016

This week we have two spelling challenges in year 2.  Usual spellings are coming home, but as spellings they are not really challenging, however as they are homophones (sound the same as another word) it is really important that you know what each word means.  In addition we are going to be learning words that are common to our writing in year 2 but don't necessarily follow a spelling pattern.  Please see attached list.
Apostrophe and Comma: piece, peace, their, there, they're, quite, quiet
Question Mark and Exclamation Mark Group: to, two, too, blew, blue, wear, where
Full stop group: there, their, hear, here, one, won.

Literacy Learning - Week Beginning 27th June

For the last two weeks we have been concentrating on our Non-Fiction writing.  We have done our 4th Big Write over several of our literacy lessons.  The children have been writing their own reports about fossils in the shape of a fossil book.  Using their learning from our topic work, and after having a couple of research sessions the children have thoroughly enjoyed putting their books together using their neatest handwriting of course.  How about testing their knowledge at home.  Can they tell you who Mary Anning was?  Can they tell you about an belemnite?  Or what was special about an ichthyosaur's eyes?

Maths Learning - Week Beginning 27th June 2016

This week we have been revising our time telling skills, particularly the function of the long hand and how to count the minutes from the 12 around the clock.  We have also been looking at how to move forwards and back an hour.  At home why not tell the time together, try to concentrate on minutes past the hour and digital representation.  For example half past 1 should be written as 1:30.
