Super Safe Children - 15th June 2016

Year 2 had a brilliant morning at the Streetwise Safety Centre.  The children followed five different scenarios around the centre which involved learning about safety on the railway, beach safety, road safety, safety in the home and the children even got to make a real 999 call!  We made a really good impression on the staff there who said that the children were "absolutely brilliant".  Well done year 2 for learning so much and being noticed as the fantastic class that they are!

The Queen's tea party 10/6/16

We had a lovely whole school Queen’s tea party on Friday 10th June. Preschool also joined us for this event, the whole school stood and sang the National anthem, and of course ‘ Happy Birthday’ too before tucking into the delicious cakes you all generously sent in.

Unfortunately then the rain paid us a visit, however before long we were able to venture back outside to complete the event by playing some ‘Royal based party games.

I would like to thank all the Yr 3 and 4 pupils for being so helpful in collecting tables and chairs from across the school supported by our adultsto enable the event to happen. The children were also very helpful in supporting the younger children at the tea party. It really showed off the ‘service’ element within our school community, helping others where we can.

Maths Learning - Week beginning 6th June 2016

This week we have been adding and subtracting two-digit numbers.  The children have been flexibly using different methods to solve problems involving addition and subtraction and also choosing which method is most efficient.  At home you can practice subtracting two-digit numbers.  Using a blank number line to jump back in 10s and 1s; the vertical method where you put one number underneath the other to subtract; working mentally to subtract the 10s and then the 1's.

Literacy Learning - Week beginning 6th June 2016

This week in Literacy we have been looking at character descriptions and reports on real people.  In the run up to The Queen's birthday we have been using the children's wonderful home learning to help them write a report about her life.  At home practise using describing words (adjectives) to describe, people, places or objects.

The spellings for this week are as follows:

Wonka-tastic day in year 2 - 9th June 2016

What a wonderful day year 2 had on Wednesday!  The costumes that the children came in were amazing, so many thanks for all of the effort put in at home.  The children worked around a rota of jobs in the morning, they were challenged to design machines for Mr Wonka's factory.  Invent their own chocolates (which you tasted at the end of the day).  Made the collage sign for our Wonka chocolate stall at the end of the day and took part in a secret drama filming session (more to be revealed soon)!  By lunchtime we had managed to fill the marble jar, so year 2 got their party complete with fruit kebabs and a chocolate fountain!  After school the children were able to taste and share their chocolate inventions with parents and other children.  Weren't they brilliant!  Oompa Lumpa Webb worked her brown and white striped socks off - Thanks Oompa Lumpa Webb.  What an amazing day - look out for photos coming up on the school website!
