Mr. Gibson's Last Post!

Just a message to thank all the children and parents for a fantastic half-term! I have really enjoyed myself and could not have asked for a better first class! The encouragement I have received from parents has also been brilliant so thank you all!
I hope you all have a merry Christmas and don't eat too much chocolate!

Mrs Sam Johnson

Sam Johnson accompanied Year 2 on their recent trip to The Priest's House Museum. If you have not yet watched the video she has made, introducing herself to parents and children, please check this out. It is still available from the bottom left corner of the homepage of our website! Sam has also attended a teachers' meeting and I know she is really looking forward to starting work in Year 2 after Christmas!

The Sleepy Shepherd

Lovely narration and great singing from all of Year 2 in this morning's performance of The Sleepy Shepherd. We look forward to seeing more parents and friends at the performances on Wednesday and Thursday at 10.10am

Party Lunch

Hello all,

This Thursday (20th) we will be having our class party lunch and welcome every child to bring along something! There is a list up on the left hand side as you enter from the outside door to the classroom! It shows a list of different things that can be brought and helps make sure that we all don't bring the same thing!

Children that usually have hot dinners have a choice of still having their hot dinners or participating in the class lunch. If you choose not to have your hot dinner you will not need to pay for it. If you have already paid in advance for the week the school will 'owe' you a dinner.

Showtime!

Tomorrow will be the first day that Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1 & Year 2) will be showing their Christmas play! We are due to begin at 10.10am and will look forward to seeing you there!
There are also shows on Wednesday and Thursday at the same time!

No Spellings!

Just a quick message to say that there are not any spellings this week. We thought it would be a bit cruel to give a spelling test the week we break up for Christmas!

Priest House Trip

As you all know, the children in year 2 went on a trip to the Priest House Museum in Wimborne yesterday! The children all looked fantastic in their Victorian outfits (thank you parents) and we all had a great day! I hope to have some more pictures of the day following on from this post! (The one above is of the Christmas tree at the museum).

All the children had the opportunity to do 4 different workshops; parlour games, card making, Victorian cooking and the story of the Christmas tree! We all (including the adults) had a great time and gained a great insight into what Christmas in Victorian times would have been like!

P.S ask your children how many children Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had! They should all be able to tell you......

Year 2 play

Just a quick message to all that year 2 will be starting the showing of our play next Monday. We've been practising very hard with our songs and learning lines and we are sure that all the hard work will pay off. Could we ask that all the children come to school with a plain white shirt or t-shirt? Mrs. Webb has got some lovely bow ties for the children to wear and the school trousers/skirts the children usually wear will be the same!

Thank you for your support!

Year 2 Trip

Just a reminder to all parents that this Thursday is year 2's trip to the Priest House Museum. We ask all the children to dress up as Victorians for the day (see picture) and to bring a Disposable lunch i.e. something that can be thrown away after use, so no lunch boxes or drinks bottles.
The children arrive at school as usual (8.45-9.00am) and then we board the coach at about 9.30am. This is Mr. Gibson's first time on the trip and I am very excited to be going, I am sure it will be amazing!

Thank you.

Priest House Museum Trip

Calling all parents, year 2 are going on a trip to the Priest house Museum this Thursday to help introduce their new topic of the Victorians! If you are available for the whole day on Thursday and fancy a trip out then please inform me or Mrs. Webb and we will make a note of it!

Thank you

Writing activity

In year 2 we have been doing a lot of poetry work and looking specifically at how we can use adjectives and similes in our writing (parents, quiz children on what they mean!!!) We have also started our new topic of The Victorians and will be looking at the similarities and differences between then and now both in general and in terms of Christmas.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it (which of course you will), is to write a short story including adjectives and similes:

You've been transported back in time to 1840. Queen Victoria sits on the throne and you've just been summoned to Buckingham Palace to meet her, only you live in Dorchester! (remember there were no cars). How are you going to get there? How would you describe Buckingham Palace? Why has Queen Victoria summoned you?

Good luck!

Reminder for instrumentalists!

Children who learn musical instruments are performing in Monday’s assembly beginning at 10am. They need to remember their instrument and music and bring this into assembly with them.

If you would like to come and watch then please enter the school via the school office, you’re more than welcome! Please remember though it is a normal school assembly and not a polished performance!

Non-school uniform day

Just a reminder that tomorrow (07/12/12) is a non-school uniform day. As a donation we ask the children to each bring in an item that can be used for the tombola! Anything from tomato ketchup to a pack of pens!

Christmas Play

We are now well under way with our preparations for the Christmas Play and its all looking pretty good! As you may know, Year 2 are the narrators in the play and do all of the talking whilst year 1 act/mime and reception do a song! I hope that all the children are practising their lines whenever they can as we will not be using the little sheets of paper on the day!

Usually the children in year 2 dress smartly, so I am asking all parents if they could arrange for their children to dress smartly for the performances (Wb 17/12/12)  i.e. shirt, waistcoat/blazer (if possible), trousers. Mrs. Webb even has some bow ties for the children to wear as well!

We are sure that everything will look amazing on the day(s) and would appreciate your help in achieving this.

The right to nutritious food

Today Year 2 have been learning about Indian food by looking at Mr Farrington's photos of Bangalore. Then we tasted some Indian fruit, rice, Mr F's home made vegetable curries and various snacks such as naan bread, onion bhajis, chutneys and pickles. Mr Farrington showed us an interesting way to open a coconut!

Year 2 spellings

Just a quick note to mention that we did not send spellings home yesterday, they will be sent home on Monday!
