Cheselbourne Sports Event

Hello Year Two Families

Yesterday, 14 children from Year 2 had a fantastic time attending the Multi-Sports Festival at Cheselbourne First School, organised in partnership with PH ActiveEd. The pirate-themed event gave the children the opportunity to take part in a wide range of exciting sporting activities and challenges designed to keep everyone active, engaged and having fun!

Throughout the afternoon, the children showed excellent teamwork, determination and enthusiasm as they tackled the different activities including axe throwing, indo-boarding, mini golf and a treasure themed relay. The event focused not only on physical skills, but also on perseverance, encouraging children to try new things and keep going even when something felt tricky at first.

Our Year 2 children represented the school brilliantly with their positive attitudes, encouragement of one another and wonderful behaviour throughout the day. It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and children stepping outside of their comfort zones with confidence.

A huge thank you to Cheselbourne First School and PH ActiveEd for organising such a fun and memorable event. The children returned to school full of excitement and eager to share their favourite moments from the afternoon!

Year 2: A fantastic week!

We have had a great day today celebrating David Attenborough turning100 years old. We started the morning off with a talk by Ali from Monkey World. She told us all about Orangutans how the stories of the rescued ones at Monkey World.

As well as learning about Orangutans, we read the story 'Wild Life' all about Sir David Attenborough, watched a short clip of planet earth, looked after our school grounds by litter picking, met Mini the tortoise again and some children chose to pond dip.

In English this week we had a delivery of a very special package that made us think and question about our new English book.

In Maths we have taken our learning about measuring length outside! The children have now measured in cm, m and compared lengths.

We have put in a knowledge organiser sheet on mass and capacity. We will be starting looking at this next week. Home learning is to write sentences about the picture.

Next week we have some children off to a sports festival on Monday. If this is your child then please can they come to school in their PE kit and bring a packed lunch. On Friday we are are on a trip, this is covered by local trip form. If you would like to come with us then please either email me or speak to me at the door on Monday.

Thank you SO much for the beautiful flowers, chocolates and biscuits to celebrate my recent win of Primary Science Teacher of the year. I really appreciate it.

Have a lovely weekend.

Hearing Dog Visit

 Hello Year 2 Families

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Debs and Keith from the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People to our school. They brought along two very special dogs, Elmo and Shadow, who quickly became firm favourites with the children!

During the visit, Debs spoke to the children about what it means to be deaf and explained how hearing dogs provide invaluable support in everyday life. The children were fascinated to learn how Elmo and Shadow help by alerting Debs to important sounds such as the telephone ringing, someone knocking at the door or alarms going off around the home.

The children listened incredibly well throughout the session and showed great curiosity and empathy. They asked lots of thoughtful and interesting questions, demonstrating a real interest in understanding how hearing dogs help people to live more independently and confidently.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn more about disability awareness, inclusion and the important role assistance dogs play in supporting people’s lives. A huge thank you to Debs, Keith, Elmo and Shadow for such an engaging and memorable visit!
