What is Hajj? What is a notch?

This week the children have been learning lots of new words and definitions, such as what a 'Kaaba' is and also what 'Hajj' means. In RE at the moment we are learning all about Islam and some of the traditions and special ceremonies that take place. I wonder who can remember where the Kaaba is?

In Geography today the children learnt all about erosion and how a notch is formed in a cliff. We looked at our Jurassic coastline and how it has changed recently from the devastating storms that we had at the beginning of the year. The children were amazed to see the damage that waves can cause and all understand the importance of staying away from a cliff edge and not climbing on rock falls. I did set a challenge to see how many home learning pieces of work I could get in about erosion. Can the children find any pictures of a notch in a cliff that is not in England?

Last week we began to learn about our senses and we started off with our sense of taste. This week we talked about our sense of hearing and why it is important. On the Year 2 pupil links Science page there are some fun games that the children can play with.

School photos- TOMORROW (28TH)

For those of you that did not see the notice board on Friday, school photos are on Monday (tomorrow).

Please make sure that your child comes to school with their school jumpers on and matching socks!

A busy first week back!

This week the children have been learning all about their senses

We had a tasting science lesson where the children got to taste and group food that was bitter, salty, sweet and sour.

In literacy this week we have been trying to persuade someone to do something. On Tuesday the children had the challenge to persuade their parents to let them keep a dinosaur! Through out the week they have had other challenges like how to convince a grumpy pterodactyl to take them for a ride or how to persuade a T-Rex to become a vegetarian. They all have thought of some great arguments!

On Friday we had our trip to the farm to see all of the lambs and we were also lucky enough to see a calf. It was very muddy but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to Hazel once again for a great visit.

Just a reminder that Tuesday is the Year 2 parent information session with a focus on reading, it will start just after 9am.

Welcome back- dates for the diary!

Welcome back!

It was so nice to hear about all of the exciting and fun things that the children have been doing in the Easter break. Last term we had to cancel our farm trip, this has now been re arranged for this Friday. A letter has been sent home today but it is the usual clothes needed (rain coat, warm fleece, trousers, wellies and spare pair of shoes for pm). We expect it will be very muddy as lots of rain is forecast this week so please make sure your child has waterproofs and wellies.

Next Tuesday (29th) will be the Year 2 parent information session. There will be a focus on how we structure group reading and how to help your child with their reading. As well as this I will talk about what we will be learning this term.

The children visited the jungle today and got to choose one of our lovely new books! If you haven't had a chance to look in our new library it is defiantly worth a look. The books start off at 'tree' (blue) and move through to the 'forest' (green) and then finally when the children are free readers/ year 3/4 then they are at the 'jungle' (red). All the children were given some time to explore the area and it seemed a big hit! The books are all now to be scanned so once the children have finished with the book they have then they will need to scan the book back in (they should know how to do this) and then scan a new book out. The idea is that the children can choose which ever book they would like however we have spoken about how to choose the right book for you. If you have any questions please do ask any member of staff in Year 2.

We look forward to seeing lots of home learning this term. Maths, writing, handwriting, stories, poems, art  anything and everything is welcome as long as it is written down or made by the children.

Easter Egg Colouring Competition

Easter Egg colouring competition.  All entries need to be with the school office by Wed 2nd April, to allow sufficient time to judge the entries and to hide them in the shops!  Sorry for any confusion caused.
