Merci et aurevoir!

The children all proved to be superb rhyming poets last week producing fantastic imaginative poems about dinosaurs!!!!!! (Ask them for a verse or two!)

All that remains to say is a HUGE, COLOSSAL, GINORMOUS, MASSIVE, EPIC THANK YOU!!!! 1. For the VERY generous gift - I was totally bowled over, not expecting anything, so thank you. 2. Children, for being amazing this year - being adaptable, maturing academically and socially and, particularly in confidence (lots of developing senses of humour making us all laugh!!!!!). 3. Finally to all you wonderful parents, grandparents and families for being so welcoming, friendly and supportive. I think the children have had a superb year and have done themselves (and us) proud!

Happy holidays - make sure you wave or stop for a chat if you see us (in or out of school) !

Every child has the right to play and learn at school

This week, Mr Farrington showed Year 2 some videos and photos of some of the schools in India he has visited. The children also did some lovely writing after watching the drama about Surya.

So healthy we could burst!

We are so healthy we could burst!!!!!
We launched the week by discussing what "healthy" means and the children came up with a multitude of ideas - food, drink, exercise, happiness, education.........and so on! We were lucky enough to watch the Children's rites inspired Indian show which was outstanding - as well as a powerful message, the show was a vibrant explosion of music, fun, interactive drama and cultural learning! The children felt very strongly about the message from the play and continued during the week to write poems which are truly moving!
We have explore healthy food and used potatoes grown by the class to make soup as well as making bread ready to sample as a starter to our lunch tomorrow!!! Yummy - can't wait!!!!
The children recapped learning that took place with regards to fire safety at Street wise and we carried out some drama as well as making 999 calls - I have to say, the children who made them (with Mrs. Webb as the operator) were superb - very clear and confident. We reinforced how important it was to know your full address! The children also learned about the recovery position, why, when and how you do it - ask them to try it out - again, they were very good! Some of the children even wanted to know what to do if someone wasn't breathing so we discussed it - you may or may not want to take this further at home should they wish to know more! I though it was superb that they were so keen to learn such valuable skills! Well done!
In numeracy I posed them the very mean statement "All children in Year 2 are unhealthy!" - They had to agree or disagree and decide in small groups how they could prove/disprove this - They quickly decided to explore data handling as their method. I am looking forward to their presentation of the results and reasoning tomorrow!!!! Great independent thinking, team work and making links to prior learning - some children chose to use tally  charts and then bar charts (created themselves), some even chose to use 3 circled Venn diagrams and also 4 boxed Carroll diagrams! Super!
Obviously we have also been very sporty this week as well as learning about sun safety, particularly apt at the moment - long may it last!
On that note, I told the children about a competition run by POWSA to design a sun safety poster, to be in school by next Friday - great prizes to be won!!!!!!! They can present it however they wish!

Lastly a huge thank you to Ronaldo's Nanny who came a long way to share two lovely stories with the class today - again they were entranced - I particularly enjoyed Cloudland by John Burningham!

Enjoy the sun and I can't wait to spend the last week with you all next week - what a fab (nearly) year I've had!!!! Please feel free to pop in during Monday's open afternoon should you wish to discuss reports!
